On the side of the fire victims of Northern Evia
Within just three months of the magical concert of the two artists, Marinella and Marios Frangoulis at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, the union of the power of the many that characterizes the Thyateira Association and constitutes the cornerstone of its charitable work towards Hellenism, became a reality with the delivery of the amount of 30,000 euros to the Holy Metropolis of Chalkida to support the fire victims of Northern Evia. The check was even accompanied by the delivery of health materials in order to meet the needs of the residents.
The Metropolitan of Chalkida, Mr. Chrysostomos, received the check on the morning of Monday, November 29, in a modest and small ceremony, visibly moved by the philanthropic gesture of the Thyateira Association, its social sensitivity and love for the church, which is also expressed through the support of the work of the Archbishop of Thyateira and Great Britain, Mr. Nikitas.
His Eminence described the amount of money as significant in its size, but mainly in the quality of the people who offered it, whom he thanked from the bottom of his heart because they give the Metropolis of Chalkida and the Board of Directors of the General Philoptochos Fund the opportunity to help with the many problems faced by families who lived from professions related to the burned areas and to distribute the amounts according to needs. He noted that when one helps another, our courage and hope are strengthened because God also acts through people who have a sensitive and philanthropic heart.
In turn, the president of the Thyateira Association, George Papagiannopoulos, also stated that he was moved by this moment, both symbolic and substantive, and that he was confident that this amount of money through the specific structure of the Church would be channeled with absolute transparency where there is a need. He even emphasized that the Association’s choice to distribute the proceeds of the concert to the Holy Metropolis of Chalkida was unanimous, while he praised the call of His Eminence Archbishop of Thyateira and Great Britain, Mr. Nikitas, which led to the collection of a significant amount from the parishes of the United Kingdom to be given to our homeland.
Mr. Papagiannopoulos concluded with the wish that the power of the many expressed through the concert at Herodion will set an example for others to help restore this disaster in Northern Evia as quickly as possible.
It is worth noting that 344 families affected by the devastating fires are under the protection of the Metropolitan of Chalkida.
The Thyateira Association thanks again all the participants of the great concert, the Sponsors and Supporters, the Members, the Friends and the thousands of Spectators who supported the achievement of its goals in practice, strengthening this effort materially and morally, so that together we can offer important humanitarian work.
He also warmly thanks the two great artists, Marinella and Marios Frangoulis, who, with their rare aesthetic presence, contributed to the promotion of the Thyateira Association as another bridge connecting our homeland with the Greeks of the United Kingdom and all over the world!
